North Carolina car accident: Street race kills 2, arrests made

A driver often makes multiple turns and lane changes in a single trip. Most in North Carolina go to great lengths to ensure that their actions are not the cause of an accident while making these maneuvers. Unfortunately, even the most careful drivers are sometimes unable to avoid the reckless actions of others. In fact, two people were recently arrested in North Carolina in connection with a car accident that resulted in two fatalities.

The incident happened in April 2019. According to reports, a car with two occupants was turning into a gas station parking lot. Unfortunately, the vehicle was reportedly struck by a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male. Both occupants in the first vehicle died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. The teenager was injured.

Following an investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the local police department, both the teenage driver and a 26-year-old male were arrested in connection with the accident. Law enforcement authorities believe that the two were involved in a street race at the time of the collision. Both drivers are charged with careless and reckless driving and spontaneous speed competition. The younger defendant is also facing two counts of second degree murder while the older is charged with aiding and abetting second degree murder.

Unfortunately, a family is left coping with the unexpected, preventable death of their loved ones as a result of the North Carolina car accident. In addition to their grief, many families facing similar circumstances also face extensive financial complications as a result of lost wages and funeral costs. To help manage these expenses, some victims of accidents such as this -- including surviving family members in the event of a fatality -- choose to seek recompense by filing a lawsuit in a civil court. An attorney with experience with such cases can help victims fully understand this process and whether such action may be appropriate for their individual circumstances.
