Drug charges against women after North Carolina traffic stop

On Behalf of | Aug 13, 2019 | Criminal Defense

An encounter with law enforcement officials can be unnerving regardless of the circumstances. Unfortunately, many people in North Carolina and across the country are unsure how to respond if an encounter results in criminal charges. In fact, one woman may choose to seek professional advice after a recent traffic stop led to drug charges.

The incident that led to the woman’s arrest reportedly happened just before midnight on a day in July. While reports indicate that her arrest followed a traffic stop, it is unclear what led officers to initiate it. However, a K-9 allegedly detected a controlled substance in the vehicle following the stop.

As a result, law enforcement officers conducted a search of the vehicle. They claim to have uncovered both marijuana paraphernalia and cocaine inside a purse in the vehicle. As a result, the woman is facing a felony charge of cocaine possession and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia.

The woman posted bail soon after her arrest on drug charges and was given a court date. Unfortunately, many people who have little legal experience or training are unsure of their options following an arrest. However, there are experienced criminal defense attorneys in North Carolina who can help those facing criminal charges fully examine the details of the case — including the events leading up to their arrest — to help determine the most appropriate response.  For some, this may include accepting a plea deal if one is offered while for others it may mean fighting the charges in court.
