Criminal defense: North Carolina officer accused of drunk driving

Anyone can face criminal charges in North Carolina and across the country, including police officers. However, even police officers -- with legal training and experience -- may want an experienced criminal defense professional to guide them as they navigate the criminal justice system. In fact, a deputy and school resource officer may want such guidance following her recent arrest.

The 33-year-old woman was reportedly arrested on a day in late October. Police responded after receiving reports of a hit-and-run accident; the details of the accident are unclear. They claim to have discovered the woman driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes.

Reports claim that the woman had glassy red eyes and smelled of alcohol. Her blood alcohol content was reportedly over the legal limit, resulting in charges of reckless driving, driving while intoxicated and an open container violation. Police say that her children were later discovered home alone prompting an additional child abuse charge. Her employer has issued a statement that she was fired.

Criminal accusations can have serious personal, financial and professional consequences. In fact, the accusations against this North Carolina woman resulted in the loss of her job, reportedly following an internal investigation, and an order that she lives with her parents. Because the decisions regarding a criminal defense can be so significant, most people -- even police officers -- want advice and guidance while they respond to criminal accusations. With such a person on their side, they may have more confidence in their ability to make the best choices for their individual circumstances.
