Multiple injuries reported in North Carolina bus accident

Parents across the country send their children to school on school buses. These same parents also sometimes allow their children to ride on school-provided transportation to travel to certain extracurricular events, such as ball games. The decision to allow their children to participate in these events typically centers around the expectation that the professionals involved in the transport will take appropriate action to protect the children, including ensuring that buses are properly maintained and that drivers adjust their driving to road conditions. Though the details of a recent accident are unclear, reports indicate that several people were injured in a school bus accident in North Carolina.

The incident reportedly happened just before 9 p.m. on a day in late August. A bus was transporting the members of a high school volleyball team. Unfortunately, the bus reportedly went down an embankment on a North Carolina mountain road.

A statement made by the school indicated that several students, two coaches and the bus driver were injured. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. However, one person was transported to the hospital by helicopter.

In an accident such as this, it is fortunate that the injuries suffered were not of a greater magnitude. However, even non life-threatening injuries can create significant physical and financial complications for victims. To ensure that those who are injured are able to cope with the medical costs — and other potential expenses — associated with a bus accident such as this, they may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases in North Carolina can help these victims take appropriate action, including helping to determine all parties who may be financially responsible.
