Though it may be easy to take certain traffic signs for granted, all signs are placed with the intention of protecting drivers and other users of roadways. Failure to obey them could have tragic consequences as a recent car accident in North Carolina appears to demonstrate. A driver now faces multiple criminal charges as a result.

The crash happened during the afternoon hours of a day in mid-May. According to reports, the driver of a pickup truck failed to obey a stop sign. As a result, the truck is said to have struck a Head Start bus; the impact reportedly caused the bus to overturn. A vehicle behind the bus also became involved in the collision.

Reports indicate that four adults and 18 children were injured in the collision. The driver of the vehicle behind the bus, a 63-year-old woman, died five days after the accident due to her injuries. The driver of the pickup truck now faces multiple charges, including failing to stop at a stop sign, driving without a license and death by motor vehicle.

Though the injuries suffered by a majority of the victims in the accident appear to be minor, one family is now left to cope with the unexpected loss of their family member. Often knowing that such a loss could have easily been prevented makes the experience even more difficult. Unfortunately, families often experience financial difficulties in addition to the emotional consequences related to the death of a loved one. Often, medical expenses, lost wages and funeral expenses can become overwhelming. To help cope with these costs, they may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the person deemed responsible for the North Carolina car accident.
