It is often difficult for police to determine exactly what happened when a crime occurs or is believed to have occurred. While certain circumstances may seem to paint a particular picture, there is often no way to fully prove what actually happened to the standard required by the court of a conviction of crimes. Despite this, a teenager in North Carolina is now charged with murder in the death of his father.
Police and rescue workers were reportedly called to a home in April 2018. A 16-year-old at the scene reportedly told responders that he found his father in a recliner. The latter was unconscious, and the teenager claimed that there was a dog leash wrapped around the man's neck; the dog was reportedly still attached to the leash.
Unfortunately, the man died three days later as a result of strangulation. The teenager reportedly told responders that his father was emotionally abusive and expressed concern about what his father would do if he were to survive. A grand jury recently indicted the teenager for murder. Reports claim that the teenager's mother requested an order of protection against the alleged victim in the past, claiming that he was prone to "fits of rage" and had threatened certain family members. The pair divorced just before his death.
People react differently when faced with an emergency situation. Law enforcement officers apparently found the statements that the teenager allegedly made while he was confronting the death of his father suspicious. However, the shock of such a situation can often leave people acting in ways that may be considered atypical. Now while still coming to terms with the death of his father, the North Carolina teen must also respond to the murder allegations that he faces.
