Soccer star arrested on drunk driving charges

On Behalf of | Mar 3, 2024 | CRIMINAL LAW - Drunk Driving

Driving while intoxicated is not only illegal in North Carolina, but it is also very dangerous. Being arrested and accused of drunk driving is nothing to take lightly. Even if the accusations prove to be untrue, the humiliation of being arrested and charged is enough to impact many areas of a person’s life, especially their career and reputation.

Former Olympian facing charges

Recently in Winston-Salem, U.S. soccer legend Hope Solo was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. The incident happened during the afternoon in the parking lot of a department store. According to reports, a witness claimed to see Solo sleeping behind the wheel of her vehicle for an hour and notified law enforcement.

Officers claimed that when they arrived, they found Solo passed out behind the wheel of her parked car with her two children in the backseat. Police said that Solo refused a sobriety test. Reports said she was taken into custody and charged with DWI. Solo reportedly released a statement indicating the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest.

Help in the aftermath

Regardless of the situation, any time a person is hit with a DUI or other criminal charges they face challenges ahead. However, a criminal charge, in and of itself, is not proof of anything. If certain procedures are not followed by law enforcement, it could lead to the charges being dropped altogether. Anyone in North Carolina who has been charged with DUI has the right to consult an experienced attorney who can protect their rights while working to achieve the best outcome given the circumstances.
